Wholesale Nursery Business for 60+ years
Hawkersmith and Sons Nursery, Inc. began on April 7, 1951 when Will Hawkersmith and sons, Louis and Leon, purchased 424 acres of land in Tullahoma, TN. They chose to become a wholesale grower, specializing in landscaping materials. The Hawkersmiths were active in the early development of the Cherokee Chief and the Cherokee Princess Dogwoods, later originating the Ilex Cherokee and currently the Magnolia Grandiflora Green Gem and Autumn Faith Sugar Maple.

Hawkersmith & Sons Nursery, Inc. is now owned by Louis and Jean Hawkersmith. The nursery's operation is assisted by son, Steve and daughter, Pam. Over the years, we have purchased an additional 500 plus acres, totaling approximately 1000 acres for nursery stock within a 3-mile radius of the original nursery. The nursery employs 25-30 year round employees. Many employees are like family after being with us 20 to 30 years and raising their families on the nursery.
