John Holmlund Nursery is a family owned and operated wholesale tree nursery located in the fertile valley between Portland, Oregon and the scenic Mt. Hood region. Originating in the late 1960’s, we have grown to over 600 acres and produce more than a million trees annually.

Our trees are specifically grown for major bare-root tree markets; caliper and specimen tree growers, container operations, re-wholesale, and garden centers. The 200 plus varieties in production are grown with today’s environment in mind. Many are selected for their urban forestry requirements: low maintenance, hardiness, disease-insect resistance, stress tolerance, and unique plant features. A number of the latest cultivars are produced from tissue culture, with others being propagated from rooted cuttings or grafting of selected root stocks.

Scott has been with John Holmlund Nursery for 48 years. He values his relationship with fellow employees as well as with customers that make this company a great place to work. He and his wife Glennda also share 48 years together. They have 3 sons and a daughter who have made them grandparents to 9 grandchildren. Scott coached boys basketball for 7 years at one of the local high schools, prior to which he coached 10 years with local youth programs. If you know Scott then you know he has a passion for sports.

Larry has been in farming for 42 years, and of that 31 years with John Holmlund Nursery. He has been married to his wife Linda for 43 years. They have 2 children and 7 grandchildren. Larry’s favorite sport, in which he played, refereed and coached for 35 years is soccer. He and Linda enjoy boating whenever they have time and both love to play tennis.

Butch has been buying nursery stock since 1989 and worked as a Sales Rep with Holmlund since 2006. He has been in the tree industry for 25-30 years. A NASCAR and outdoor enthusiast, he also enjoys fishing and traveling.

Shawn joined Holmlund Nursery over two years ago. Prior to that he spent 15 years as a teacher and is a good problem solver. Shawn loves spending time with his wife and three children. His many hobbies include woodworking, fishing, gardening/farming, teaching classes at the local church, traveling, and coaching baseball and soccer.

Marketing Specialist and Shipping Coordinator

Jerry has over 54 years in the nursery business. Prior to working 12.5 years with John Holmlund Nursery he worked for McGill's Nursery for 41.5 years. Jerry not only has a wealth of nursery knowledge, but an infectious enthusiasm for the nursery business. Jerry and his wife Shirley have one child and three grandchildren. When he has a free moment you can find him volunteering for the local Boy Scouts of America chapter where he has been a leader for the past 34 years.

Persida Villegas-Paz

Office Administrative Assistant

Persida joined John Holmlund Nursery 15 years ago. While Persida wears a number of "hats" around the office, she and Jerry work with one another to coordinate shipping. Persida also works very closely with our Production Manager, Mike Reihs, in order to ensure that our administrative nursery needs run as smoothly as possible. Persida and her husband Samuel have three beautiful daughters: Salim who is 9, Hidai who is 5, and Ana who is 3. During her time away from the Nursery you will find Persida in the loving care of her family, or tending to her garden, or volunteering with her local church.
